Compost Tea
Tips
- Compost Tea is a great way to add organic matter to plants and
soils. Building the soil food web provides soil with nutrients,
organic matter, and beneficial microorganisms, which
can make soils healthier, promote growth and help to fight
diseases
-
There are two types of compost tea, Aerated and
passive compost tea differ in a few ways. First, aerated tea usually
include added nutrients such as kelp, fish hydrolysate, and humic acid
to promote the growth of beneficial microorganisms in a highly
oxygenated solution.
- Compost Tea is best sprayed within 4 hours of turning off any
aeration system in your brewer.
- It is not recommended to use the same sprayer used to spray
herbicides that you use as a Compost Tea Sprayer.
- There are diverse opinions about recirculation in a Compost Tea
Sprayer. Some feel the bypassing of the organisms is
harmful to them, others feel it adds air and is good for the
microorganisms and some feel it has no effect. With a
Turbo Turf Compost Tea Sprayer you have full control of the amount of
material you are bypassing. If you feel it is good, run
the engine at full throttle and open the bypass and you will have lots
of aeration and bypass. If you believe less is better, run
the engine at half throttle and just leave the bypass open a little
and you will have almost no material going back into the tank.
- The right nozzle set is important for a Compost Tea Sprayer.
Each Turbo Turf Compost Tea sprayer comes with a gun and two very
different nozzle selections. One nozzle is designed to
gently rain the Compost Tea onto the lawn. Some Compost Tea may
cause clogging problems with this nozzle. The other stainless
steel nozzle attached to a wand on the end of the gun is designed to
allow particles to easily pass.
- If you make a decision to use a conventional lawn sprayer for
Compost Tea never use one with a roller pump. A diaphragm
pump unit is acceptable but try to run as low a pressure as you can
which means you will need to bypass more material which some feel is
not desirable but you can use a set up with a diaphragm pump. A
centrifugal pump is the best choice.
